Thesis Project
In a world where design inspiration is just a click away, young designers often explore cultures beyond their own. Yet when it comes to Indian design, this journey often feels scattered, superficial, or overwhelming because there is so much evolution and history in Indian creativity and yet feels unknown. My research revealed a shared need: a place where designers could not only access Indian visual culture, but truly understand it, experiment with it, and engage with it respectfully.
Kala Mapper was born from this gap. “Kala” honors the many Indian languages in which it means art, while “Mapper” speaks to the platform’s purpose: to help designers navigate the richness of Indian design with curiosity and care.
This is the beginning of that journey. Let me show you how Kala Mapper comes to life.

The homepage is built to give an overall glimpse of what Kala Mapper provides.

Archive Page
The archive page is divided into four categories: Typography, Illustration or Folk Art, Patterns and
Motifs and Photography. The navigation accross categories can be done via the left panel.
On opening each category page, user will see a banner of latest articles at the top.
As the user scrolls down the heading banners, there is integral information about
Indian design of that category. On scrolling down, there are a series of postcards
which are actually articles. On clicking the postcard, user will see the article.
Game
Designers are emotional wanderers. The more they explore and face challenges,
the more they learn. Introducing a new grame prompt, renews every month!
